Kohima, June 21 (MExN): The Department of Art and Culture, Government of Nagaland, has inaugurated the Naga Indigenous Inn-cum-Learning Centre at Phesama village in Kohima district, a facility aimed at preserving, promoting and documenting Naga indigenous heritage and traditional knowledge systems.

The centre was inaugurated on June 17 in the presence of Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Art and Culture, Bodeno S. Colo, who attended the programme as the special guest.

Addressing the gathering, Colo underscored the importance of preserving indigenous knowledge, cultural practices and traditional values for future generations. She expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and the North Eastern Council (NEC) for supporting the project.

She said the centre has the potential to promote cultural tourism, indigenous studies, experiential learning and community-based economic development.

Colo also acknowledged the contributions of engineers, architects, technical personnel, village authorities, community leaders and the executing agency, M/s Delie Metha & Son Enterprise, for their role in completing the project.

Presenting the technical report, Executive Engineer, Art and Culture, Er. Kakheli Swu outlined the objectives of the project and highlighted its key infrastructural features.

Speaking on behalf of the executing agency, Metekhriezo Patrick Kuotsu of M/s Delie Metha & Son Enterprise thanked the Department of Art and Culture for entrusting the firm with the project. He also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for his support and acknowledged the cooperation extended by stakeholders involved in the project.

The dedicatory prayer was offered by Vito-o Kuotsu, Associate Pastor of Phesama CRC, while Neilaü Thaprü presented a special musical number.

The programme was chaired by Deputy Director, Art and Culture, Teisovikuolie Therie, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Director, Art and Culture, Adela Moa.

According to the department, the inauguration of the Naga Indigenous Inn-cum-Learning Centre reflects the state government's continued commitment to safeguarding Nagaland's cultural heritage while creating opportunities for learning, tourism and sustainable community development.
