Dimapur | September 8
The 25 MVA transformer which was shifted from Aolijen, Mokokchung to Dimapur was offloaded from the transport trailer only on Saturday, September 8. The brand new transmission equipment had reached Dimapur on September 2 last. Power officials said that they encountered some technical problems during the process of unloading, resulting in the delay.
It will be more than a week before the transformer is put into place. When it comes into circuit, the old stand-in 10 MVA transformer, also brought from Mokokchung, will be put off circuit.
Queried on the allegations of the department covertly transporting the transformer to Dimapur from Mokokchung, the officials speaking on condition of anonymity, dispelled the apprehension of the consumers of Mokokchung. According to the allegations, the 25 MVA transformer was installed at Aolijen and awaiting commissioning in the first week of September. When commissioned, it would meet the demands of the districts falling under Mokokchung electrical division.
However, the department secretly relocated the transformer to Dimapur leaving the district with just one transformer, consumers in Mokokchung had alleged.
Dispelling the notions of the department being biased towards the consumers of Mokokchung, one official said, “This is not a question of step-motherly treatment or the department being partial to one district… We’re just caretakers of the equipments”, while adding that the transformer belongs to the Government of Nagaland and it is for all the people of the state.
The department had acquired two 25 MVA transformers recently for Mokokchung division for the long term, keeping in mind the stealthily increasing power requirement of the division and the long pending proposed revamping of Tuli Pulp and Paper Mill. One is already commissioned and is in circuit. The current load demand of Mokokchung electrical division is such that the existing transmission equipment is capable of meeting its demand, the official said. And since Dimapur was in immediate need of one, it was taken there. It will be relocated to Mokokchung as and when Dimapur gets the damaged 20 MVA transformer after repairs or when the 100 MVA transformer arrives, whichever is earlier, it was added.
