BJP Aghunato seeks clarification on rice distribution in constituency

Aghunato, April 12 (MExN): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Aghunato unit has sought clarification on distribution of rice to a particular locality of Aghunato Town Zunheboto District recently as a measure to combat COVID-19 pandemic.

In an open letter to the Pukhayi Sumi, Advisor to Food & Civil Supply, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection and Department of Taxes, the unit drew his attention one such distribution at the residence of the president of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party’s (NDPP) 34 Assembly Constituency in Aghunato Town on April 8.

“The rice item was distributed in favour of your party men women and to a particular locality, instead of the rightful beneficiaries,” maintained the letter appended by BJP 34th Assembly Constituency President, Kakiye Yepthomi and General Secretary, Khevito Chishi.

In this connection, the unit, in the open letter, asked the Advisor whether the distribution of Rice were done through the allocation of various central schemes as National Food Security act (NFSA) of priority house hold/Ration used holders i.e. PHH or AAY under targeted Public distribution system or the tide over allocation (TOA) under NFSA or the special package through the Nagaland Disaster management as relief fund or special package through Prime minister relief fund.
If not what about monthly allocation of rice by the central allotment under tide over, it further posed.

The BJP Aghunato further noted that under TOA, 38,722 bags of rice are provided monthly by the centre to the state.
If the rice distributed was from Advisor's own pocket, the “party seeks clarification on how the rice distributed was from the department of food and civil supplies meant for the rightful beneficiaries,” it said.

Amidst this crisis time of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nagaland state is doing its bit with the effort of the centre to provide assistance needy affected by the lockdown, in such situation, on behalf of the rightful beneficiaries, questions the act the Advisor, it added.

The unit further requested the Advisor and Concern Department to distribute the rice adequately in the state by utilising the tide over allocation (TOO) and to all needy peoples cutting across party line and asked for a detailed response.
