The BJP today welcomed the NPF’s resolution to revoke the severing of ties with the Party, but has kept options open for pre-poll alliances even as Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader Neiphiu Rio met the Party National President Amit Shah in New Delhi.
Welcoming the new resolution, Mmhonlumo Kikon, BJP MLA and Co-Convenor, Election Management Committee, however, insisted that any pre-poll alliance for the forthcoming elections will depend on the seat-sharing arrangement that any party will have with the BJP.
“The BJP has already identified 25 constituencies and we will have seat-sharing as the major criteria for sealing any alliance,” Kikon maintained.
Confirming the meeting between Rio and Shah, a press release from NDPP also informed that the Party has authorised Rio to discuss with “likeminded parties and work out modalities for a pre-poll alliance ahead of the general election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.”
“While we desire solution of the Indo-Naga political imbroglio, if conduct of election is imposed, the NDPP is fully prepared to face the forthcoming election on its own, however, it is open to alliances in the interest of the people, especially in supporting the peace process and bringing an honourable solution that is acceptable to the people,” the release issued by NDPP’s Media & Communication Committee stated.
The NDPP leadership and all its rank and file further assured that “any strategic decision that is decided will be in the greater interest of the Naga people”. The party “will protect the interest and aspiration of the people as enshrined in the NDPP constitution.”
