BJP will get absolute majority in 2022 assembly elections: Biren Singh

With the 60-seat Manipur Legislative Assembly going to poll in the early part of next year, most probably in February and March, Manipur Chief Minister (CM) N Biren Singh has stated that the BJP will retain power.

Attending a function at BJP head office in Imphal related with joining of some new faces including a former MLA to the saffron fold, the CM said that considering people’s growing support to the party, he was confident of the party securing absolute majority.

On his Facebook page, he also wrote, “The direction of the wind indicates absolute majority for the BJP in the upcoming assembly election.”

At the function, the BJP welcomed former MLA Sapam Kunjakeswar Singh alias Keba, former UCM president Yumnam Nabachandra among others.

"BJP is a party working with nation first. The party is growing its strength in the state day by day", he claimed.

Biren Singh then expressed strong concern over the poll related violent incidents reported at various places of the state in recent times.

“It is very unfortunate,” he said while alleging that some persons intended to contest elections were behind some of the violent incidents. There is no room for violence in democracy. Casting a vote to the candidate of one’s choice is the right of a voter in a democratic country. People should be allowed to elect the candidates of their choice", he said.

The chief minister who is also in-charge of the Home department said that the state government is considering collection of the license guns well ahead of the elections. "The Home department will issue a notification asking the gun license holders to deposit their arms to the concerned authority", he further said.

Taking part in the reception function, state BJP president A Sarda Devi said that what the saffron party wanted is to install a government that will work in the interest of the people and put forward the developmental activities. "The BJP is working hard with the objective of installing a people oriented government in the state", she added.
