Block level health melas began with Jakhama PHC under Kohima dist

Kohima, April 26 (MExN): In commemoration of 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the block level health melas began with Jakhama PHC under Kohima district on April 25. The mela was organised by the District Health Society Kohima, Department of Health & Family Welfare (NHM) supported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). It also is being organised in collaboration with the departments of State Health Authority, Food Safety (FSSAI), Youth Affairs & Sports, AYUSH, School Education, Information and Broadcasting, Women and Child Development, Panchayati Raj Institution, Directorate of Urban Development and Directorate of Culture.

According to a DIPR report, stating that health & wellness and healthy environment were the most important things in this advance world, Advisor Technical Education & Election, Medo Yhokha in his speech called upon the people to avail quality health care services with essential medicines through different systems of medicine at free of cost provided by the medical team and to lead a healthy life in future. He stressed on the importance of timely investigation, detection and treatment of any health issues and further encouraged the gathering to take the opportunity and to contribute towards building of better society.

Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie IAS said that with this health mela, the block level health mela for the district has started off. The DC Kohima said that the central Government has been introducing various programmes for the benefit of the people and therefore the people should take the advantage of it and avail the facilities at their doorsteps so as to achieve the target of the programme. He also added that the mela will provide free health check up in various medical fields with free distribution of medicine.

The Mission Director (NHM), Dr Thorusie Katery spoke on the key services to be provided during the health mela which includes, Reproductive child health relate on maternal and child health, family planning, IEC- Family welfare, Reproductive Transmitted illnesses, sexually transmitted, illnesses, AIDS screening and treatment; NCD related on Yoga, meditation and lifestyle counseling, tobacco and alcohol cessation, cancer prevention awareness; Communicable diseases related on personal/environmental hygiene, leprosy control, TB control, malaria, skin care; Eye care on  refractive error, Cataract screening); General  on digital health ID creation- ABDM, Ayushman Bharat card issuance, general health check up tele-consultation with specialists, Indian system of medicine- Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Homeopathy; Awareness on exhibition of all services, field publicity- using local folk, art and play, ENT screening and dental consultation.

Official from Food and Safety department also spoke on the 'food safety on wheel' stationed at the venue where tecnical personal were available for consultation with free distribution of pamphlets on food awareness.

The programme was chaired by CMO Kohima, Dr Vezokholu Theyo while vote of thanks was delivered by Dy. CMO, Dr. Khriesilie Sachu.
