Blockade along Mariani-Mkg road

Truck drivers in Mariani, Jorhat have reportedly gone on strike in protest against an alleged assault of a truck driver near Mokokchung town. As a result, truck drivers have stopped ferrying goods along the Mariani-Mokokchung Road since February 1. Movement of commercial vehicles has come to a grinding halt along the Mariani-Mokokchung Road due to the blockade. According to reports, the blockade was imposed by transporters in Mariani, Jorhat in protest against the assault incident in which a truck driver was allegedly assaulted.


According to reports and sources, the assault occurred on January 31 at New Camp, near Mokokchung town. The unidentified driver, along with two others, was reportedly assaulted. Another version of the incident stated that the three were suspected of involvement in a missing woman's case and were beaten by youths while being questioned.


The reports however could not be officially verified.
The youths who were involved in the assault were arrested by the police, the reports stated.
