The Tribal Vision today organised 3rd edition of Blowing of Horn and Yelling/War Cry Competition as part of the ongoing Hornbill Festival 2025 at Kisama.
In Blowing of Horn competition held at Sumi Morung, Lhuvepra Venyo, representing Chakhesang emerged the first position while Vizosieto Viipru of Angami tribe and Ketwapeusing Haikam of Zeliang tribe stood 2nd 3rd position respectively.
The Blowing of Horn or Winding Horn is a sound device that is usually made of shaped like an animal Horn, arranged to blow from a hole in the pointed end of it.
The rudimentary device had a variety of function in different cultures, however the common cases of its usages are celebrations and alertness on impeding danger.
With the advent of modernity, this communicating mode handed down to us through generation is almost waning, according to Tribal Vision.
Therefore, this competition is held to revive this dying practice and create awareness among this generation, Tribal Vision added.
In Yelling/War Cry competition held at Unity Plaza, a lone lady participant from Sumi tribe bagged 1st position while Tikhir and Chakhesang tribe stood 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
Yelling is a mode of communicating a message to the mass through well articulated sound a practice handed to us through time immemorial. There are different ways of Yelling for different occasion and incident.
The style of yelling will signal the message to the people on what kind of situation or incident there are being alerted.
It is a mode for communicating victory, mourning, impending danger etc. to the mass.
