Bordoloi Trophy: Nagaland settles for second; Delhi FC take title

Guwahati, April 3 (MExN): Nagaland Police settled for a second place as Delhi Football Club defeated the team by a solitary goal in the final match to lift the title of the 68th edition of Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy football tournament at Nehru Stadium, Guwahati on April 3. 

While the two teams were engaged in a goalless competition till the first half of the match, Japanese midfielder Kosuke Yamazaki broke the deadlock for Delhi FC in second half. 

It proved to be the decisive goal of the final match. Despite dominating the final match throughout, the Delhi FC could not score more as spirited defence from Nagaland prevented further goals. 

Nagaland goalkeeper Neithovilie Chalieu produced some stunning saves in the first half to keep the match in a goalless draw, before Yamazaki beat the keeper in the 70th minute to break the deadlock. 

Delhi FC went down 10 men in the last 10 minutes of the match giving advantage to Nagaland team, but the former managed to maintain the lead till the final whistle to lift the trophy. 

With this, Nagaland Police have lost their final match for the second time in Bordoloi Trophy. In 2009, they lost to Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club. 

Meanwhile, Nagaland goalkeeper Chalieu was adjudged the best goalkeeper of the tournament and Kosuke Yamazaki of Delhi FC was awarded the player of the tournament. 

Delhi FC walked with a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh along with trophy and citation, while Nagaland Police received Rs 1 lakh. 

The Nagaland Police team was led by coach Lhoulavolie, Asst coach,  Hainsiugongbe and manager, R Dibambo.

The players were  Neithovilie Chalieu, Nighatu T Sumi, Sanyem Konyak , Meribui, Paul, Menoneikho Nakhro , Khwetelhi Thopi , Rhitsho Mero, Veseto Chuzho, Lipok Sashi Jamir, Bendang Meren, Kezhose , Imli Akum, Seisanglen, Amun Nungsaham, Limakumzuk, Y Lemtong and Digungpeung.

The Bordoloi Trophy is one of the oldest football championships in North- East India organised annualy by Guwahati Sports Association (GSA).
