Dimapur, July 17 (MExN): Nagaland Minister and State BJP President, Temjen Imna Along today said that both the Assam and Nagaland Governments are “putting on their continued efforts to solve the perpetual conflict” over border.

Imna Along, who is the Minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, said this after meeting Rupjyoti Kurmi, the erstwhile MLA representing Mariani Constituency, bordering Nagaland.  Kurmi, who was Congress MLA, resigned from the Assam Assembly and later joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on June 22.

“Met the 4th time MLA from Mariani Constituency, Jorhat, Shri. @RKurmiOfficialnJi today to discuss and take stock of the ongoing border dispute between Assam & Nagaland” (sic), the Minister updated on Twitter after the meeting.

“The Government of both the states has been putting on their continued efforts to solve the perpetual conflict,’ he added.

The Minister also requested people residing in the border areas to maintain law and order as well as cooperate with the government.

Imna Along also expressed optimism that under the leadership of Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the border tension would be ‘settled amicably.’

Meeting with TYNF
Meanwhile, the Minister later updated that he also hold a meeting at Chungtiayimsen Village with the Tzūrangkong Naga Youth Organisation (TYNF) to discuss the “border belt issue between Assam-Nagaland.”

The meeting was held in the presence of ADC Mangkolemba, SDPO Mangkolemba, OC Longtho, 13th IR Commandant, Japukong Senso Senden President, and other important members, he added.  Reiterating both the Chief Ministers are set to “take all possible measures to resolve the border issues,” he urged the “Naga brothers to entrust their faith in the government.”

It must be noted here that the Commissioner of Nagaland Rovilatou Mor has reportedly informed on July 15 that a “Chief Minister level meeting of Nagaland and Assam is scheduled to be held very soon.”

The TNYF in a statement informed that the Commissioner gave the assurance during a meeting between public organisations of Tzürankong and senior Nagaland police officials led by DGP Nagaland T John Longkumer on July 15.
