Botsa | February 24 : Bringing cheers to the general public of the area, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today launched the commencement work of a new road project in Nagaland- Botsa to Bokajan which is being taken up for construction by BRTF and funded by General Staff roads under Ministry of Defence. Unveiling the commencement work here this morning, Rio assured that the state government and public will extend full cooperation and support for completion of the project within the stipulated time. The Chief Minister also requested Sewak, BRTF to do quality job also bring more connectivity from plain to hill areas of the state. Rio appealed to the public and the land owners not to hamper with the construction of the road which is in public interest, though there will be no contract works available, except for purchase of certain materials such as stones and wood. He also asked the land owners to bear with the norms in regard to compensation.
Acknowledging the General Staff, Sewak, BRTF for bringing such new road project to Nagaland, Rio called upon the public to give their cooperation, adding that the new road will ease the problem of transportation and also help boost the business activities.
The new road connects Botsa- Zeizou- New Ralan in Nagaland to Bokajan in Assam. The total length of road is 85.35 Km and initially will be developed to double lane formation width. Surfacing will be single lane initially and based on traffic density will be upgraded to double lane, source said.
The work will commence in February 2011 and finally be completed in March 2016. An available source said that to avoid inconvenience to public, the road has been divided into four phases with each phase being completed in 3 years.
Phase-I: Botsa- Nro River, length- KM 0.00 to 20.50 (20:50 KMs), commencement- February 2011 and PDC- March 2013. Phase- 2: Nro River to T. Junction: KM 20.50 to 34.85 (14.35 Kms), commencement- November 2011 and PDC- March 2014, Phase-3: T. Junction – New Ralan, KM 34.84 to 54.35 (19:50 KMs), commencement- November 2012 and PDC- March 2015, Phase 4: New Ralan – Bokajan, KM 54.35 to 85.35 (31.00 Kms), commencement- November 2013 and PDC- 2016.
As per current status of the project, formation works has commenced for Phase I while survey is in progress for phase 2. In regards to land acquisition, surveyed and compensation to be disbursed for phase I. Major bridges along this road includes; Nro River, Yampar River, Rengma River and Dhansiri River. The chief minister was accompanied by minister for road & bridges G. Kaito Aye, minister for PHED Dr. Ngangshi Ao, parliamentary secretary for geology & mining, border affairs, irrigation & flood control Y. Patton, Azheto Zhimomi, advisor, sericulture & cooperation, Chief Engineer Sewak (BRTF), Brig. Balraj Singh, Col. K.S. Malladi, Commanding Officer, 15 BRTF and several others.
