Bouquet of schemes under postal service

Good news for Nagaland! Its citizens, particularly those living in the State Capital Kohima and district headquarters of Dimapur and Mokokchung, can now send money from their State in seconds to their loved ones, family members and children who are pursuing studies or undergoing treatment in many countries of Europe, America, Asia and Middle East. This was disclosed by K Kevichusa (IPS), Postal Director, Kohima Head Post Office, in a press conference held at his office chamber on Friday. He said number of schemes have already launched under Postal Department and Kohima, Mokokchung, Dimapur. 

They are New Pension Scheme (NPS), MO Videsh and IMO. The Postal Director said the NPS was introduced for all the citizens of the country with effect from May 1 last year. The salient feature of this scheme is even Non-Resident Indians INRIs) can avail this opportunity. The Scheme is normally operated through organizations which are designated as Points of Presence (POP) through identified Post Offices. 817 HOs throughout the country have been enlisted as POP to operationalize NPS and Kohima Post Head Office is one of them, stated the Postal Director.

Highlighting the facilities of the Money Order Videsh (MO Videsh), Kevichusa said it is a new offering of India Post to citizens to facilitate remittance to foreign countries and receiving of remittances from foreign countries thorough the medium of their neighborhood Post Office. The scheme which was launched on October 10 last year would initially be offered through Head Post offices only, he disclosed.

The Postal Director further disclosed that they had tied up with various agencies in various major cities of the world and such facilities were given for studies abroad, medical treatment abroad, family maintenance and travel. The inward remittance up to Rs 50000 can be received in cash and the above Rs 50000 will be paid by cheque or credited into Post Office account of the payee. Each inward remittance shall not exceed 5000 US$ at a time and a maximum of 12 inward remittances are allowed in a year. However outward remittances are allowed to RBI limitations, he added. He also explained that limit of outward remittance will be different from country to country depending on the bilateral agreements with the countries concerned.

Kevichusa also said Instant Money Order (IMO) of the India Post Office is convenient, reliable and affordable, because it is instant online transferring of money. One can transfer money from Rs 1000 to Rs 50000 from designated Instant Money Order Post offices. “It is simple to send and receive money,” he added.

Receiver of money have to present 16 digit IMO number at any designated IMO Post Office counter with a filled up “To Make Payment” (TMP-1) form along with identity proof. These identity proofs can be Voter’s I-Card, PAN Card, Ration Card with photo of the receiver, Post Office identity card, driving License, Passport, School/Collage Identity Card and Official Identity card, etc.
