Boxing coaching camp in Mokokchung culminates

The intensive free boxing coaching camp organised by the Boxing Association Mokokchung (BAM) which started on July 19 culminated at the Multipurpose Sports Complex on July 29 with the Chairperson of Mokokchung Sports Council (MDSC) and Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Poji as the special guest.

The intensive free boxing coaching camp organised by BAM under the theme ‘the future of boxing is in the small gloves’ started on July 19, 2023. An overwhelming 164 aspiring participants enrolled in the ten-day camp where state and national level boxers coached the children.

The special guest, Deputy Commissioner, the Chairman of MDSC and also an Honorary Advisor of BAM, Thsuvisie Poji greatly appreciated the Boxing Association Mokokchung for taking the selfless responsibility moulding the young children. He predicted that the initiative of the BAM will bear fruit in the days to come.

“I foresee a great future and light in the future,” said Poji while adding that it is his prayer that there would great boxers from Mokokchung who would excel in the international level.

The BAM President, Lanuakum Imsong, in his welcome address, highlighted about the association which was formed in the year 2016 and how the association, with the help of all concerned, has strove for the promotion of boxing in the district.

Appreciating the young boxers, Lanuakum said that excellence in academic career also need physical fitness, which is paramount. He encouraged the participants to be determined, practice daily, listen and learn from the coaches so that they might achieve whatever their aim might be. 

The vice president of BAM, Tsubusang Pongen, in his vote of thanks, acknowledged all those who have rendered their help towards the successful completion of the coaching camp. He particularly thanked the media houses, especially the print media in Nagaland, for their moral support in publishing the news articles during the whole coaching camp. 

The deputy commissioner also handed certificates to the coaches and technical support team. Six most promising camp attendees, a boy and girl from the three age groups were given certificates.

The culmination programme was attended by officials from the Mokokchung District Taekwondo Association, the Mokokchung District Martial Arts Association and Mokokchung District Badminton Association.
