Breakdown of Constitution in Manipur: K Therie

DIMAPUR, JUNE 16 (MExN): Former President of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), K Therie today said that the situation in Manipur is a “clear case of breakdown of the Constitution.” “Law and order has completely collapsed. What more is required to dismiss the Government that is killing and destroying its subjects and properties. It is madness self-destruction,” a press release from the former NPCC President said.

He further claimed that the Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh is the factor if peace eluding in Manipur. Therie claimed that it is a case of “Hinduvta vs Secularism” in Manipur, and accused the Manipur CM of being the “executioner of the RSS idea of Hindutva.” Therie added that all Northeast states are under serious pressure.

“Manipur is burning, Sikkim in protest, Nagaland public under siege from 18 factions. In Arunachal Pradesh, RSS is prospering, Tripura Hindutva is in force. Assam Government is championing Hindutva. Mizoram and Meghalaya although have reservation with RSS yet, they support BJP at the Centre for their survival. Ruling Government lives in fear of NIA, ED and CBI. Tribals, Adivasis and minority religions live in fear of their life and future. No one is safe under BJP,” Therie stated.

He further alleged that after removal of Article 370, the BJP is “doing everything in the Northeast to neutralize or remove Article 371 special protections.” He said that the BJP has chosen the “Judiciary path for Sikkim and Manipur.”

Therie also questioned the silence of the Prime Minister on the Manipur violence while stating that the Union Home Minister has “lost control” and the Governor Peace Committee has been boycotted. He said that parties will not join Peace Committee as long as the Biren Singh is CM and Member of the peace committee. “Dismissal of Biren Singh is the only way to attempt peace in Manipur,” he added.

Therie said that this is the time that the President of India should intervene.
