Burglar arrested after decamping with Rs 40 lakh

Dimapur, August 14 (MExN): One person was arrested in Golaghat, Assam, on August 13 for a crime committed in Dimapur. According to a press release from the Dimapur police, the accused— Mintu Tanti (29 years) was arrested with the assistance of the Golaghat police. 

The release said that the accused had stolen Rs 40 lakh after breaking into a private office located at Kalibari Road. The accused was arrested from Dhodhang village in Golaghat. Part of the stolen cash amounting to Rs 28,16,000 was recovered from another village called Thuramukh. 

The accused was reportedly planning to construct a house with the stolen money but construction was delayed due to the COVID pandemic restrictions.

The release did not specify when the burglary occurred, while only stating that one security guard, who was employed at the office where the burglary occurred, was also arrested for allegedly facilitating the crime.
