Burst water pipe cause flooding at Jail Colony

Kohima, November 29 (MExN): A burst water pipe caused flooding and damaged properties in some shops in Jail Colony (Hotel Politos junction), Kohima around 7:15 am on November 29.

The incident was caused by bursting of the main line pipe at the Colony, Neise Mechulho, Chairman, 19th Ward, KMC and Jail Colony, Kohima said.

While reporting the incident to the Executive Engineer, PHE, Kohima Division, the chairman said that the bursting has caused heavy damage of property in one shop and flooded adjacent shops spoiling some goods.

“The force of water was so strong which has even bended the rolled up shutters. Indeed, it would have been tragic had human being were there. It is observed that it happened due to lackadaisical attitude of the department in tackling such serious risks,” he added.

It was also reported that this is the third incident at the same site. “No doubt the staff in charge team has been repairing the same part again and again. But things are getting worse. At this juncture, the Jail Colony Council urges the Dept. to consider the matter seriously and take action once for all the time to come without delay for the safety of the Colony Residents and their property,” the Council added.

Therefore, the Council has demanded “reasonable compensation to the victims of the incident from the Department and that the Department is let free from controversy. The same may be looked into within appropriate time. The estimated Loss shall be intimated in due course of time.”
