Dimapur, October 15 (MExN): C Edge College celebrated the 10th Fine Arts and Cultural Day under the theme ‘promoting culture through education’ on October 13.

The theme speaker Meyatemsu Longkumer, HoD of English Department conveyed the significance of education in preserving and promoting cultural heritage. The speaker underscored the pivotal role of education in ensuring that the rich tapestry of traditions and customs is passed on to future generations. The enlightening speech resonated with the audience and emphasized the college's commitment to cultural preservation and education.

An update received here stated that the annual Naraosangala Prize for Folk Art holds special significance as it is sponsored by the Principal of C-Edge College in memory of her mother, Narosangla Longchar. 

“This heartfelt tribute adds a deeper layer of meaning to the competition, emphasizing the enduring connection between art, culture, and the cherished memories of a remarkable individual. It is a testament to the power of art in commemorating the legacies of our loved ones and fostering cultural appreciation within the community. It took center stage during the recent cultural competition, where the winners were revealed with great anticipation,” it stated.

This year's theme was ‘Guardians of Tradition,’ and the competition focused on the unique art form of sketching. Narosangala Prize showcased a different type of folk art each year, celebrating the rich tapestry of cultural heritage and creativity that continues to thrive in our community. The event not only honours the talented participants but also serves as a vibrant reminder of the importance of preserving and promoting our cherished traditions, the release added. 

More than 100 students participated in the celebration of culture, showcasing their talents and knowledge of diverse traditions.

The first session featured rendition of folk songs, solo folk fusion and traditional attire show. The second session was presentation of traditional cuisines from various regions. Folk dance performances were presented featuring traditional war cry and spear kicking.
