Dimapur, February 21 (MExN): C-Edge College observed International Mother Language Day on February 21 with active participation by students as well as the faculty. This day is observed worldwide to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism.
The college organised the event with the theme “Enriching Mother Language”. The students presented various items such as traditional group songs in various Naga tribal dialects, the traditional Ao declaration of their own clans known as ‘Atem’, a detailed presentation of the Sumi Naga clan names, and a drama ‘The Jungle Major’ enacted from the book These Hills called Home by Temsula Ao.
Speaking on the significance of International Mother Language Day, Nancy Lovika, Assistant Professor of Sociology Department stressed on the importance of technological trends in English learning and teaching and also about connecting with the rest of the world. She also mentioned about inter marriage between different tribes or races and its effect on the social environment and also about the imitation and ignorance of the people.
The event also featured an educational funspiration both for students and faculty based on the Naga dialects. The invocation for the event was presided over by the college EU President, David Ao of BBA VI Semester.
