MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu today stressed on the need to undertake an extensive beekeeping activity in the state as “it has multiple benefits.”

“It helps in pollination of garden, crops and flowers. It also has health and environmental benefits and also helps strengthen one's economy,” said Azo at the one day training on entrepreneurship, food processing and value addition at Phek village.

The training programme was held under the aegis of Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) with TRIFED, Ministry of Tribal Affairs as sponsoring agency and conducted under Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana (Cepi Van Dhan Vikas Kendra Cluster).

‘Do not rely on government alone’
Azo informed that COVID-19 pandemic has affected the country's economy very badly, for which, one should not rely on government alone. “How long are we going to depend on the government?  Is it not a time we learn to stand on our own feet and contribute to the state/ country?” he said.

Azo said the need of the hour today is to go back to the land and take up agricultural activities or entrepreneurship in order to become self sufficient, self-dependent and work towards self reliance.

He lamented that the culture of subsidy in the past has totally destroyed the work ethics of the people.

The people have become too dependent on others, for which, the principle of self-reliance failed to emerge at the desired level.

Er Khuvoyi Vese, Deputy Team leader, NBHM talked on the various activities being undertaken by the Mission.
He said the training programme aim to facilitate marketing of the products and also strengthen value addition to boost the rural economy.

Vekutholu Vero talked on the process of food processing.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Chivozo Soho while welcome address was delivered by Kuzhoniecho Keyho, chairman Phek Village Council.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Hüvekholü Keyho, women VDB secretary Phek village.
