Call for mass cleanliness drive, tree plantations

Kohima, June 3 (MExN): In pursuance of the directive of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and as per meeting held with ward authorities for culmination of Meri LiFE, Meri Swachh Shehar campaign, the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) today informed that a mass cleanliness drive will take place in Kohima on June 5 in commemoration of World Environment Day.

The cleanliness drive will take place within all 19 Wards of the municipality from 6:00 AM onwards.

KMC inspectors will inspect each Ward and this will also be included in the annual 'Cleanliness Competition.  

In this connection, KMC administrator T Lanusenla Longkumer requested all the wards, sectors and colonies to conduct cleanliness drive within their respective jurisdiction.

Further, Longkumer requested all citizens of Kohima municipality to actively participate and contribute towards a cleaner and healthier Kohima.

Zunheboto: To spread mass awareness and sensitization about lifestyle for the environment (Mission Life) and to celebrate World Environment Day a massive plantation drive will be conducted in Zunheboto town at various locations on June 5. 

Zunheboto DC, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, IAS has informed that the plantation drive will start at 8:00 am on June 5 at the selected locations, and simultaneously saplings will be provided by DFO and would be transported to the respective locations by Zunheboto Town Council to the mentioned locations on June 3.

The DC has also informed all officers in charge to ensure that the saplings are received beforehand on the specified date.

Dimapur: In observance of World Environment Day, the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) will be conducting a tree plantation programme-cum-cleanliness campaign in New Naga Cemetery at Zani village from 7:00 am on June 5. 

The NCD through a press release has requested all councillors to participate in programme. It informed that every councillor will plant a chosen sapling to be cared and nurtured by him till fully grown into a tree. “Those individually owned particular trees will be named after the name of a councillor who planted them. A councillor absentee will not have trees after his/her name in the cemetery compound,” it stated.

The plantation drive will also cover along the roadside leading to New Naga Cemetery, it stated. All the councillors are requested to come with daos and tools for planting tree saplings, NCD will arrange breakfast, drinking water and resting sheds, it added. The Forest Department will provide the tree saplings for the day.
