CALT, SST and Watsü Mungdang defend Dr SC Jamir

Dimapur, May 26 (MExN): The Chümoukedima Ao Lanur Telongjem (CALT), Soyim Students’ Union (SST) and the Watsü Mungdang have expressed concern over the alleged attempt of the NSCN-IM leadership to “suppress the truth” Dr SC Jamir, and had condemned the same .

CALT: Condemning the alleged attempt to “suppress the truth,” the CALT in a press release via its Media Cell stated that at this juncture, the Nagas need “people speaking the truth and sharing their dreams and aspirations of a new brighter and better Nagaland.”

The NSCN (IM) placing the entire blame of decades long Naga problem on Jamir is unwarranted and highly irresponsible, it maintained.

“The Nagas struggle for a separate nation from India has always been based on the truth that we the Nagas are different from India and that we have a right for self determination,” it added.

The CALT further opined that the Framework Agreement (FA) was signed between the Indian Government and NSCN (IM), and not with Jamir.

Dr Jamir only revealed what was said to him by the Prime Minister and Home Minister of India of what is and isn't contained in the FA and thus far both the PM and HM of India have not claimed that what Jamir said is false, the CALT claimed.

The CALT further called for revealing the contents of the FA so that the common Naga people can “finally know who speaks the truth and who the traders of lies are.”

SST: The Soyim Students’ Union (SST) also stated that it is  “extremely bothered by the recent charges and assertions” against Dr Jamir.

In a press statement issued by Moatemsu Longkumer, President, SST and Merennukshi Imsong, General Secretary, they said that Jamir, as the SST's first general secretary, is a pioneering figure.

He has opened the eyes of not just the Ao Nagas, but also the Nagas in general, and  steered the people toward prosperity and development while serving at the highest levels of government, it maintained.

As such, leveling charges and accusations against someone like him appears irresponsible and idiotic, it added.
The Indian constitution guarantees freedom of speech and expression to every citizen of India, and that Jamir, as a genuine Indian citizen, has the right to express and share his views, it asserted.

The SST further said that Jamir’s ideas and participation in the Naga peace discussions are vital as he was an eyewitness to a number of significant events in Naga history and the only living individual who has seen the course of the Naga peace struggle

No individual, group or organization has the authority to restrict an individual's right to free expression, it added.

Furthermore, the SST reasoned that whether Dr Jamir is correct or not, his thoughts and opinions are his own and called alleged public targeting “reprehensible.”

Watsü Mungdang: The Watsü Mungdang (WM) has also stated that it was flustered and disturbed by the recent updates on the Indo-Naga political talk wherein Dr Jamir has “been singled out and trying ways and means to make him the scapegoat.”

As a political icon and signatory of the 16th-Point Agreement and a leader in Jamir’s stature and on invitation by GOI, it is only befitting to speak his mind on the Naga issue, stated a press release from Watsü Mungdang President Arenla Longkumer General Secretary, Sungtiriben.

Accordingly, it called accusations against Dr Jamir “destructive” and said that such accusations would only bring division and communalism among the Nagas.

The Watsü Mungdang fully also extended its full supports to the Ao Senden’s May 22 stance and expressed hope and prayer that the political settlement is made at the earliest without any discord or division among the Nagas.
