Dimapur, July 30 (MExN): Can Youth organised an adolescent summer retreat under the theme ‘Voyage, learning & Growth’ at Green Park with Kegwayhun Tep, President, Naga Students’ Federation as special guest and Imnajungla, EAC, Dimapur and Imojungla Longkumer, District Co-ordinator DWSM, PHED as resource persons

At the morning session, the founder & chief functionary of Can Youth, Jenpu Rongmei exhorted the gathering. He highlighted and stressed on how the Adolescent Club was formed under Can Youth in various part of Dimapur and Chumoukedima during the Covid – 19 wave and shared its aims and objectives. He stated that adolescents are the hope, they are now and the future. He believed that through this summer retreat the club members will further foster their relationship and learn new things. “We should have fun but at the same time we should always have respects and discipline with the values of our life,” he added. 

Kegwayhun Tep, President, Naga Students’ Federation encouraged the Adolescent Club members to take proper care of their health in order to prolong their longevity. He said that mental health is becoming a major concern, and encouraged the adolescents to talk about their problems to their close friends and family and asked them to be truthful and honest in whatever endeavour they pursue. He reminded that the Adolescents Club is a space for learning, sharing and growing together.

At the second session, resource person Imnajungla, EAC, stressed about good and bad governance. She stated that like every game has its own rules, similarly governance too has rules. People and the government coming together and consulting each other for the welfare is good governance, she said while highlighting about the legislative, judiciary and executive parts of the government. Good governance simply means inclusive decisions to benefit the citizens meanwhile bad government simply means the absence of good governance, she added.

Imojungla Longkumer meanwhile talked about the importance of empowering communities on water and sanitation. She emphasised the inter relation between good sanitation and water and said that empowering the community will have a good impact on the society. She stressed how water and cleanliness are the most essential parts of life and bringing good impact on water and sanitation is equally responsible for citizens. He encouraged adolescents to practice good habits of water and sanitation.

After the second session, a one act play was held on the topic ‘Good governance and Bad Governance’ where Pearl Adolescents Club, Namgalong colony were the winners. On the topic ‘Empowering Community on Water and Sanitation,’ Ganeshnagar Adolescents Club emerged as the winner. The summer retreat also witnessed various activities and competitions. 

The programme was chaired by Nuyielu Nyekha, Project Lead; invocation was delivered by Suhutoli Achumi, Intern from NEISSR; and welcome address was given by Sentimongla Ozukum, Facilitator, Can Youth. Presentation was also delivered by Mary Konyak, Project Coordinator and words of acknowledgement were presented by Kh Katini, Project Coordinator.

The inauguration session of the summer retreat were attended by officials of NSF, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union, Tenyimi Students’ Union Dimapur, Dimapur Eastern Naga Students Union, Adolescents Support Group, MSW interns from NEISSR, board members and Legal Advisors of Can Youth.
