Several candidates, intending to appear for the Combined Staff Recruitment Examination (CSRE)2022 under, Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB), scheduled to be held on November 11 and 12, were left feeling dismayed and frustrated on Saturday evening when they received news of their designated exams centres which were in different districts of the State.

One of the candidates, Amen Jamir, a student of Nagaland University (NU) who currently resides at Meriema campus, Kohima spoke with The Morung Express on Sunday. She revealed that during the registration process for the exam, they were provided with two options to choose their exam centres. “I had opted for Kohima in the first choice and Dimapur in the second option but upon receiving my admit card yesterday evening, it showed Medzhiphema as my exam centre,” she said.

Being a student, transportation costs and the burden of travelling on the day of the exam were her biggest concerns right now. With just five days left before the commencement of examinations, the situation has placed a heavy burden on her mental state. “Taxi fares are not cheap as well these days, and since I reside at Meriema, it will cost a lot more,” she stated. She added that it would have not been as much problematic had she been designated an exam centre within Dimapur town. Without any relatives or friends at Medziphema, she was unsure whether or not to appear for the exam given the circumstances.

Another candidate, residing at Mokokchung and who wished not to be named, purported that she had been given Patkai Christian College as her exam centre even though she opted for Mokokchung and Dimapur. “Some of my friends who did their registration in the last minute had gotten exam centres under Mokokchung itself,” she commented. Whereas she claimed that she had completed her registration on September 27. According to the advertisement published by NSSB dated September 9, 2022, the opening date for online registration began on September 15 and ended on October 10.

“I feel so frustrated and disappointed because I now have to decide whether to go for revision or to travel in advance for the exam,” she said. Apart from herself, she also said that several of her friends, had received exam centres in Tseminyu, Wokha and Phek districts.

For Adeejo, a resident of Kohima, he received Baptist Higher Secondary School, Tseminyu as his exam centre along with his older brother. As a new graduate, he mentioned that this will be his first time appearing for a competitive exam.

“It’s frustrating but we have no other choice but to make do with what we were given,” he stated. “Even though we had registered early in the first week after the notification was announced, we got the second option as our exam centre,” he added. However, the people who registered at the last moment somehow got their first option, to me it is a bit unfair, he opined.

Another candidate from Kohima who got Chümoukedima as her designated exam centre commented how frustrating it was to travel down just for one day. Echoing similar sentiments as before about transportation costs and having to travel alone, she was undecided about whether to appear for the exam.  “I have another exam on the 12th in Kohima for a clerical post in SBI which I have to report by 8:00 AM in the morning,” she said. But due to the large number of posts available for the CSRE, I don’t want to miss the opportunity as well, she maintained.

For now she mentioned that she was trying to get in contact with other candidates who might have gotten the same examination centre as her.

Meanwhile, attempts to contact the NSSB officials were unsuccessful as the number provided at their website was switched off.
