CANSSEA joins nationwide strike

Strike total in Phek, Mokokchung, partial in Kohima

Kohima: Normal functioning of Government offices was affected in the State in view of the All India general strike today. Post office, banks, telecom wore a deserted look as employees demanded settlement of the 16 points charter of demand including no privatization, disinvestment of PSUs including telecom, bank, insurance etc. It also demanded employment for the unemployed, no FDI in telecom, no downsizing of work force, halt to contractorization, implementation of labor laws, withdrawal of the new pension scheme, setting up of 6th Pay Commission, the right to strike, remove ceiling on payment of bonus, enhanced interest rates in GPF, EPF etc from 8 per cent to 9.5 per cent and review of the electricity Act 203, according to the Postal and BSNL Employees Union, NE Region.

The Confederation of All Nagaland State Services Employees Association (CANSSEA) also joined the strike. Talking to The Morung Express, CANSSEA Vice President AC Hazarika said the strike was total in Mokokchung and Phek adding that it was only partial in the State capital. He, however, said office attendance was thin in the other parts of the district. The All India State Government Employees Federation (AISGEF) is demanding the constitution of six pay commission for government employees, increase in the interest rates of GPF/CPF etc, to hold moves towards downsizing of work forces and lifting of ban on  recruitment, undertake immediate legislative measures to ensure right to strike for all workforce and employees in the government service, ensure unfettered right to organize and collective-bargaining, removal of ceilings on eligibility and calculation in payment of bonus act, enacting legislation to ensure full protection to women against atrocities and to strengthen the public distribution system. Source said normal office functioning was not affected in the Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima as the Nagaland Secretariat Service Association (NSSA) had taken the decision to function as usual “in the absence of any clear official information with regard to the proposed general strike.”
