‘Capital punishment’ issue: Konyak Union urges for amicable resolution

Mon, July 31 (MExN): Expressing deep concern over the recent ‘capital punishment’ issue involving the NSCN/GPRN (Khango) and Angami Youth Organisation (AYO), the Konyak Union (KU) urged both to seek an amicable resolution to the matter.

The issue arose after a recent incident involving the NSCN/GPRN (Khango) and the Proprietor of KKB Rülho, a contractor who was reportedly threatened with ‘capital punishment,’ leading to the AYO's subsequent non-cooperation resolution against the concerned Naga political group.

According to the KU, the contractor is currently involved in various road and infrastructure development projects in Mon District and other parts of Nagaland.

To this end, the KU noted that it has always extended support to contractors operating in its region, ensuring their safety and the swift resolution of any disputes through its proactive involvement.

The KU has consistently demonstrated its unwavering commitment to protecting individuals within its jurisdiction and fostering peace and development, it said.

Accordingly, the union asserted that it stands firmly against any actions that hinder developmental processes in the region.

“Our goal is to safeguard all people and maintain a peaceful and progressive environment. We urge both the NSCN-K (Khango) group and the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) to seek an amicable resolution to this matter,” stated a press release issued by KU President Tingthok Konyak and Assistant General Secretary Chingyem Konyak.

It also called for the situation not to be blown out of proportion and requested that people or groups refrain from framing it as a tribal issue.

“The KU strongly condemns any life-threatening actions and harassment against any individuals. There are proper and respectful means to resolve disputes, and we do not condone such dangerous and harmful behaviour,” it added.

It further conveyed its commitment to facilitating a peaceful and constructive resolution to the ongoing issue.
