Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign was initiated by Chümoukedima Ao Senso Telongjem at Chümoukedima Town on August 2.

Kohima, August 3 (MExN): The Chümoukedima Ao Senso Telongjem (CAST) undertook tree plantation in coinciding with Tsüngremmong festival on August 2 at Chümoukedima Town.
CAST planted shade and avenue trees along the newly widened Bypass road from Chümoukedima town to New Chümoukedima.
Chümoukedima Village Council, DFO Dimapur, Chümoukedima Forest Range Office and Chümoukedima Ao Youth Organisation (CALT) extended support towards the plantation.
Also joining “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, various shade and avenue trees like Gulmohar, Rain Tree, Pongamia and Terminalia mandaly were planted on the road side and the same will be adopted and maintained by CAST and CALT.
Meanwhile, the Chümoukedima Ao Union thanked Razouvotuo Chatsu, Council Chairman Chümoukedima village, Beizo Suokhrie IFS, DFO Dimapur Division and Imkongsunep, ACF and his staff for providing free tree saplings and making the campaign a grand success.
“Climate change is felt and observed by everyone as there is erratic rainfall in terms of period and volume coupled by the increasing temperature making everyone to stay indoors,” stated Bendangakum, General Secretary CAST. He added that flash floods, cloud burst and inundations in low lying areas are common these days and “these natural calamities are happening in an increasing trend.”
He stated that conservation of “our earth for a better place to live has to be mitigated by adopting different recommended measures suggested by institutions and Government.”
He maintained that tree plantation is one major initiatives which will reduce environmental degradation and to protect the threatened ecology.
