Catholic schools converge for various competitions

Kohima, June 5 (MExN): The Commission for Education, Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK) organized various competitions for students from all Catholic schools in Nagaland from June 2 to 4 at St. Joseph Hr. Sec. School, Chumukedima. 28 schools from all over the State participated in the event.   Peter Lichamo NCS, Addl. Secretary & Team Leader NBDA, who was the chief guest at the inaugural function, exhorted the students to work hard and make best use of the multiple talents to take over the reign of the society and government in the future. He said competition is not to be taken negatively but as a means to choose the best. He reminded the participants to compete with true sportsperson spirit. “What matters most is the effort we put in and not the prize we get,” Lichamo added. He also invited CEDOK to organize more such competitions.   Earlier on the day, Rev. Fr. Dr. Jacob Charalel, Secretary CEDOK welcomed the gathering and the contingents from all the schools. He informed that CEDOK coordinates the educational ministry of the Catholic church and organizes various programmes to encourage and facilitate the students from catholic schools to bring out the best in them. The main purpose of the competition, he added, is to bring together students from various catholic schools of the state to interact with one another and build up friendly relationship between students of different tribes and regions across the State.   The competitions included drawing, prepared speech, solo and duet for seniors and juniors. The special feature of the event was the camp fire organized for the participants on evenings of June 2and 3, which besides relaxation and entertainment gave them ample opportunities to interact with one another, learn much about the different regions and cultures of the State and be enriched by the uniqueness of the event, a press release from CEDOK stated.   Rev. Fr. Chacko Karithayil, Director, Shalom Rehabilitation Centre and Rev. Fr. Sajan Joseph, Principal, St. Joseph Hr Sec. School, gave away the prizes to the winners and participants.
