Kohima, November 15 (MExN): The 6th edition of the Chakhesang Baptist Church Ministers Hill, Kohima (CBCMHK) Men Fellowship Annual Sports Week began today at the Kohima Science College ground in Jotsoma. This year’s event is being held under the theme “Reach the unreached through sports” and has drawn 11 participating teams for the two-day competition.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by CBCMHK Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Vevo Phesao, as the special guest. Declaring the Sports Week open, Rev. Phesao urged the Men Fellowship to play a pivotal role in mentoring their families and communities, emphasizing the need for spiritual and moral guidance rooted in God’s wisdom. He highlighted the unifying nature of sports, noting how it brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds and fosters a spirit of camaraderie. He further encouraged the Men Fellowship to use this platform to reach out to those in need and guide them back to faith.
The first day of the Sports Week featured competitive events such as relay races and volleyball matches. According to a statement issued by the CBCMHK Media & Publicity Committee, the relay race saw enthusiastic participation in two categories—one for individuals aged 50 and above, and the other for those aged 49 and below. Volleyball matches followed, with teams showcasing their skills in a series of closely contested games.
The second day of the event will begin at 8:30 a.m., with a penalty shootout competition as the main highlight. A volleyball exhibition match between the Pastoral Team and the Men Fellowship Team will also be held. Organizers have urged all participants to adhere to the schedule to ensure the smooth progression of events.
The Sports Week will conclude with a valedictory session, where CBCMHK Associate Pastor, Rev. Thujoneyi Veswuh, is set to deliver a message of encouragement. The session will be led by Men Fellowship Treasurer Tewetsolo Khamo. Delegates will collectively mark the conclusion of the event with a closing declaration, followed by a mass prayer and the ceremonial de-hoisting of the flags.
