Kohima, February 21 (MExN): The Department of English & Tenyidie at Capital College of Higher Education (CCHE) Kohima today celebrated International Mother Language Day under the theme  “Multilingual Education: A pillar of learning and intergenerational understanding.”

The students were organised into nine language groups, representing the diversity of the college community: Ao, Chakhesang, Angami, Sumi, Lotha, Bihari, Bodo Kachari, Khiamniungan, Konyak. 

Each language group was assigned the task of contributing a recipe for a special dish that holds cultural or community significance. The students embraced the challenge, demonstrating their culinary and linguistic prowess, stated an update received here. 

The Ao students presented the recipe for “Anishi with Smoked Pork,” showcasing their culinary heritage. The Chakhesang students made three unique recipes “Thüvo Lünyo” (Pork Innards with Blood), “Khu Ganyo” (Fish Curry), and “Nüna” (Snail Dish).

The diversity of flavors continued with the Angami students presenting a delightful “Gazhie Galho” recipe while the Sumi students shared their culinary tradition through the “Smoked Pork with Axone” dish.

The Bihari student added a sweet touch with the “Kheer Puri” recipe, and the Bodo Kachari team offered a unique twist with a “Rice Cake Baked from Aluminum Water Jar.”

The Khiamniungan team contributed a tantalizing chutney-based cuisine called “Kian Pan,” while the Lotha team shared their flavorful “Machihan,” dry fish chutney. The Konyak team showcased a traditional festival dish with the “Nyaram” recipe, featuring a leaf vegetable used in the preparation of various meat-based curries.

The entire activity proved to be an educational experience, generating enthusiasm and learning opportunities for all participants and the event celebrated linguistic diversity and cultural richness, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting mother languages.
