CDA members with Zeliangrong leaders during the leadership meet on August 29 in Jalukie.

Dimapur, September 2 (MExN): A leadership meet was held in commemoration with the 91st Jadonang Martyr’s Day on August 29 at the office of the Community Development Alliance (CDA) Samziuram in Jalukie, with leaders from Zeliangrong community in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, Civil Rights Forum, ZSUN, and CDA members.
According to a press release received here on Friday, while paying homage to Jadonang, the moderator briefed the house on the historical account of his death, and noted that Jadonang’s death is worthy to be accorded the status of martyrdom on equal footing with the rest of the Indian freedom fighters.
Further, the release stated that the participants deliberated on the aspects of Zeliangrong leadership of the past and present and presented a few observations that were recorded during the meet. Leaders expressed their minds and views on the importance and relevance of historical accounts and the political rights of the Zeliangrong people while asserting that the political rights of the Zeliangrong people must be pursued with urgency.
Among others, the meet concluded that the history of the Zeliangrong’s struggle was ignited by Jadonang and carried forward by Rani Gaidinliu “despite oppositions faced from the sections of Christian converts and Naga National Council (NNC) workers.” It also maintained that it was “observed and convinced that the ZPC movement was kept in abeyance under threat was denied during the recently conducted consultation by leaders of NSCN-IM at St Xavier College auditorium, Jalukie on August 16 and 17. Hence, ZPC movement remains unopposed (Sic).”
Among others, it was also suggested that Zeliangrong leaders need a “sense of urgency, courage, resoluteness and strategic diplomacy to resuscitate the Zeliangrong political movement with greater and stronger determination.”
The release also stated that the meeting stressed on constituting a Zeliangrong Homeland Demand Committee consisting of mass based and collective representatives from all the communities living within the Zeliangrong Homeland, which would include experts, qualified and experienced leaders to process the issue with utmost urgency.
Members at the meet felt an ardent need for greater and wider consultation and deliberation on the Zeliangrong political issues should be carried out for collective decision and mass participation, it added.
