Ceasefire is a roadmap, not an end: NSCN-K (Ang Mai)

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 9 (MExN): The NSCN-K (Ang Mai) has reiterating its stance on the Naga national ‘movement for sovereignty’ and the ongoing cease-fire with India, describing the cease-fire as a roadmap toward a political settlement rather than an end in itself.

It also cautioned against what it described as "deviations" from this understanding, emphasising that such actions could have lasting implications for both the Nagas and India.

In a statement issued by Major General (Rtd.) Ang Mai, Nyeiton Konyak, and Kughalu Mulatonu, the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) also urged the Christian community to pray for the vision of “Nagaland for Christ” and emphasised the NSCN’s commitment to preserving Naga identity, freedom, and self-determination. It highlighted the organisation’s recent engagement with the Government of India in bilateral cease-fire talks, which it described as a response to initiatives by Naga NGOs and Indian representatives.

The NSCN-K (Ang Mai) also voiced concerns about groups manipulating the cease-fire process to promote “factionalism, accordism, and groupism,” urging all to uphold the sanctity of the Naga national cause.  It called on groups that have surrendered to the Indian Army to cease “illegal taxation” under the guise of political cease-fire and instead rely on rehabilitation packages provided by the Government of India.

The statement criticised the Indo-Myanmar border fencing issue, labeling it a provocation that could lead to renewed conflict. It accused the Government of India of using the border issue as a pretext to escalate tensions and cautioned against such “rhetorics” during cease-fire talks.

Furthermore, the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) criticised the Nagaland State government, led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, accusing it of financially aiding certain groups while undermining the foundation of Naga nationalism. It described this alleged patronage as a betrayal and called for an end to such practices.

Reaffirming its commitment to the Naga sovereignty movement, the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) conveyed its gratitude toward countries like China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, which it credited as foundational partners in the Naga revolution. The group declared its unwavering integrity and honesty in pursuing its goals, vowing not to betray Nagas, India, or Myanmar on the issue of sovereignty.

The statement concluded with a call for unity among Naga groups and a resolve to maintain the principles of the Naga national movement.
