CECS observes World Heart Day in Tuli town

Mokokchung, September 29 (MExN): Along with the rest of the globe, World Heart Day 2019 was observed with the theme ‘Make Heart Choices not Hard Choices’ on September 29 in Tuli Town, Mokokchung district.
A press release from Coordinator, MMU CECS stated the programme was organized by CECS (Community Education Centre Society) and funded by NPCDCS (National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke), National Health Mission, Nagaland.
The event was observed to grab attention of the people towards the importance of a healthy heart and to inform people that heart diseases are the world’s leading cause of death.
It aimed to drive action to educate people that by controlling risk factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity, at least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided.
More than 130 people from Tuli town, village representatives from Longleng and Mokokchung districts attended and got screened for Hypertension and Diabetes.
Special guest Weku Zheimi, SDO Civil, Tuli Town graced the occasion. Lima Coordinator CECS chaired the occasion. The event started with a keynote address by Dr Ebenezer Phesao, State NCD Cell, DHFW followed by the session on Diabetes, Hypertension and Cardiovascular Diseases by Dr Yanger (CECS).
The programme ended by making a promise to one’s families to cook and eat more healthily, to one’s children to do more exercise and help them to be more active, say no to smoking and help our loved ones to stop, as a healthcare professional to help patients give up smoking and lower their cholesterol, as a policymaker to support policies that promote healthy hearts, as an employee to invest in heart-healthy workplaces.
