Dimapur, May 28 (MExN): The Commission for Education, Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK), on May 26 organised a function to acknowledge and felicitate the rank holders and subject toppers of all major subjects of HSLC and HSSLC examination from Catholic Schools, at Holy Cross Auditorium, Dimapur. The CEDOK also awarded selected teachers from Catholic Schools on the occasion for their committed and meritorious service in the field of education.
With the theme “Let the flame of success you lit continue to glow in your life,” the special guests at the event were Rev. Dr. Gerald John Mathias, Bishop of Lucknow and Chairman for Laity Commission CCBI; Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Chairman, Commission for Education, Diocese of Kohima; and Charles Nosazol, Additional Development Commissioner, Government of Nagaland.
While congratulating the recipients of the award, Rev. Dr. Mathias also acknowledged the teachers who were mentors of the successful students. Further quoting Nelson Mandela’s “Education is the most powerful weapon of the world,” he encouraged the educators and said that the education “transforms each individual to grow in all works of life.” The societal transformation is the result of individual transformation, Dr. Mathias noted, further hinting on the need for such transformation.
Earlier, Rev. Thoppil in his address briefed about the contribution of the Catholic schools in Nagaland and said that teachers are to be acknowledged and recognized. He further exhorted the toppers to develop the attitude of giving for the service received from the schools.
Charles Nosazol, Additional Development Commissioner expressing the joy of success brought by the children to themselves, school, teachers and the parents also exhorted the students to put “God first and be humble.” Nosazo further reminded the students to be grateful to the teachers and parents and urged them to preserver and focus on future achievement. He also lauded the contribution of the teachers while presenting awards to the subject toppers.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Benrithung L Jungio, 1st Rank Holder of HSSLC from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha acknowledged the unfailing graces and blessing of God who is the source of all success.
He thanked the CEDOK for the initiative of acknowledging the successful students from the Catholic School. The awardees, both students and teachers were given besides cash award, a certificate of merit.
Students from St. Anthony’s School, Tenyiphe, St. Mary’s Hr. Sec. School, Padampukuri and Carmel Hr. Secondary School, 4th Mile, Dimapur, performed steps and motions during the facilitation.
