Minister CM Chang flagging off the transportation of seedlings to be presented to the Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers and advisors.

Dimapur, June 5 (MExN): Celebration of the World Environment Day 2020 under the theme ‘Celebrate Biodiversity’, the Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Nagaland organized a video conference which was graced by Minister Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Law & Justice CM Chang and attended by field officers of various offices of the department.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Chang stated that due to pollution caused by anthropogenic activities, many species are becoming extinct and the global climate is also changing at a very fast rate which is effecting health and also going to leave lasting negative effects on our future and that the origin of the current pandemic as well as of diseases like SARS and AIDS are results of our excessive interference in the surrounding ecosystems.
In this context, the Minister stated that projects such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) assisted Nagaland Forest Management Project and the Community Conservation project of KfW, will go a long way in restoring the biodiversity of the state and stressed on the participation of common villagers – who are the real custodians of the richest biodiversity areas.
A press release issued by Temjenyabang, IFS, Conservator of Forests Nagaland stated that welcome address and the opening remark was made by Dharmendra Prakash, IFS, followed by a short address by the Chairman of the State Biodiversity Board, SP Tripathi, IFS. Brief summaries of the activities undertaken in districts were highlighted by Dr Sentitula, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Mokokchung and Obed Zeliang, IFS Divisional Forest Officer, Peren and vote of thanks by Supongnukshi Ao, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests (EBR).
After the video conference, CM Chang distributed two wheelers to Field Management Unit under Kohima District and Project Management Unit of NFMP. The Minister also flagged off the transportation of seedlings to be presented to the Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers and advisors.
