Celebrating 25 years of action for biodiversity

Wokha, May 22 (DIPR): ‘25 years of convention on biological diversity, safeguarding life on earth’ was held on the theme ‘Celebrating 25 years of action for biodiversity’ at Forest Colony community hall, Wokha on May 22 with ADC Wokha Nokchasashi as the special guest. The programme was organised by Nagaland State Biodiversity Board.  

Stating that Nagaland is rich in biodiversity, the ADC said it the responsibility of every individual to put effort to conserve it. He said that human being contributes to the loss and degradation of biodiversity and therefore, appealed to create awareness on conservation.  

He also shared about various government policies and schemes related to biodiversity concerns and urged the village councils and biodiversity management committee in their respective village to be dedicated and create awareness to bring change for the betterment of the future generation.  

The ADC Wokha also officially launched a short film on biodiversity management by Dreamz Unlimited titled ‘For the Future’ which was produced by Nagaland State Biodiversity Board.  

Member Secretary Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB), CCF & BR, Supongnukshi, IFS while giving the keynote address said that the United Nation has proclaimed May 22 as the International Day for Biodiversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. He said that under Wokha district there are about 21 Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) and expressed happiness to the various BMC formed in various villages for proper management of the committee and urged them to keep up the good work.  

Forest Ranger, Doyang Division, Wokha Lansothung Lotha made a presentation on the rich biodiversity of Nagaland. Short speeches were also delivered by Wokha Village and Pangti Village BMC.
