DIMAPUR, APRIL 28 (MExN): The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) organized a cultural day programme under the theme ‘Celebrating Cultural Kaleidoscope’ at NEISSR Cultural Hall on April 27.

A press release issued by the NEISSR desk informed that the programme featured various competitions such as attire presentation, craft exhibition and ethnic fashion show participated by different forums of NEISSR namely Peace Forum, Community Development Forum, Youth Development Forum and Innovators Forum.

Vizosü Kikhi, Assistant Professor NEISSR, urged for a deeper understanding of societal roles and a call for cultured citizenship. He emphasized the historical roots of cultured societies, citing the ancient Greeks who laid the foundation of modern civilization around 505 BC.

Challenging the audience, particularly the students, Kikhi posed a crucial question about the societal route Nagas ought to pursue. He stressed the imperative for individuals to transcend narrow self-interests and tribal affiliations, advocating for a shift towards cultured citizenship -a concept anchored in civic responsibility and mutual respect. Drawing inspiration from Maria Robinson’s quote, Kikhi urged for proactive engagement in shaping a new societal narrative. He stressed the transformative potential of embracing a cultured mindset, affirming that change begins with individual choices and actions.

Dr Ariina emphasized on the essence of cultural kaleidoscope as a joyous celebration of the vast array of cultures that adorn our world. This celebration goes beyond mere acknowledgment; it embodies a profound appreciation for the myriad customs, traditions, languages, arts, and beliefs that contribute to the tapestry of human existence. Drawing parallels to a kaleidoscope's ever-shifting patterns, he portrayed cultural diversity as a vibrant mosaic that enriches our collective heritage. He highlighted the importance of understanding, respect, and harmony among individuals and communities, emphasizing the beauty of cultural expressions manifested through festivals, cuisine, music, art, and literature.

Addressing the diverse student body of NEISSR hailing from different regions of the country, Dr Ariina emphasized that diversity is not just a concept but a living reality that enhances lives in multifaceted ways. He encouraged students to celebrate, embrace, and cherish diversity, highlighting its role in broadening perspectives, fostering empathy, and opening doors to new experiences and opportunities. He also called upon students to actively participate in cultural events, festivals, and celebrations, urging them to engage in cultural exchange, learn about classmates' traditions, and embrace differences as strengths. He emphasized that by celebrating the cultural kaleidoscope with enthusiasm and joy, students contribute to building a more inclusive and harmonious society where every voice and expression is valued and respected.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Menenuo Tase, MSW 4th Semester NEISSR. Earlier, the programme was moderated by Baongamlung Dangmei, MSW 4th Semester NEISSR and Vinika Ayemi, MSW 4th Semester NEISSR.
