‘Celebrating Diversity, Uniting Cultures: A Kaleidoscope of Experiences’

Sherubtse College, Royal University of Bhutan and Fazl Ali College, Nagaland continue to celebrate diversity and cultures

The  second day of the cultural exchange programme, which is a joint collaboration of Sherubtse College, Royal University of Bhutan and Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, Nagaland was marked by the annual college ‘cultural day’ on the theme ‘Celebrating Diversity, Uniting Cultures: A Kaleidoscope of Experiences’. It was a celebration of culture through folk dance and music, display of traditional attires and other presentations.

The three-day cultural exchange programme based on the theme, ‘Strengthening Bonds, Celebrating Diversity’ is hosted by Fazl Ali College and it commenced on April 3.

Addressing the annual college ‘cultural day’ event, Fazl Ali College, Principal, Dr I Wati Imchen said, “Learning about the past is always important and knowing our roots provide an automatic sense of unity and belonging. It defines our evolutionary identity.”

Dr Imchen also informed that a MOU was signed this year with Sherubtse Royal University of Bhutan with the objective of exchanging academic materials and information, to receive educational visits of faculties and researchers. The college also plans to hold international seminars and conferences to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation among different cultures and communities. 

Sharing the experience of being in Nagaland and taking part in the cultural exchange programme, a student of Sherubtse College appreciated the awareness of learning on how oral traditions are passed down from forefathers to the younger generation, and how these are shared in the form of folk dance, folklores, songs and stories. “We were touched by the kind heartedness and hospitality of the College,” she stated. 

For Fazl Ali College Students’ Union, General Secretary, Asensor Jamir, the “the humility that the friends of Bhutan have exhibited” is one of the greatest learning experiences. 

On April 5, the programme will center on the theme “Journey through Naga Culture: Embracing Heritage, Connecting Communities.” An agro-cultural educational visit to an Ao Naga farm at Nokjok, Mangmetong village will be hosted by Er T Imlisunep Ao & family, while Wxploring Ao-Naga Legacy, Fostering Cultural Harmony, Ungma Village will be hosted by Ungma Village Council.
