The District Cultural Officer, Tuensang under the Department of Arts and Culture organized the celebration of cultural day under the theme, ‘Igniting cultural traditions’ at Town Hall, Tuensang on September 30.
The event was graced by Toking Yimkhiung, EAC, Tuensang as the special guest along joined by the staffs of District Cultural Officer, Tuensang and other dignitaries.
“The identity of the Nagas imagined and portrayed by other people from outside are our traditional attires, the ornaments that we adorn our body,” he stated and also observed that the Nagas are losing the value of being honest and the warrior spirit of the Naga’s bravery are being used ‘wrongly’. “Let us preserve the good values left by our ancestors of their ‘hard work’ and ‘honesty’ and eradicate the bad values,” he exhorted.
In the welcome address, Rulong Sangtam, District Cultural Officer, Tuensang stated that the motive behind this programme is to “promote and revive the Naga culture.” He maintained that this event will have a significant impact on promotion, professional and preservation of our culture.” M Chingmak, PA to DC, Tuensang spoke on the importance of culture.
The programme was chaired by Sangleyenla, invocation was said by T Chuba, Pastor, Tikhir Baptist Church, Tuensang, vote of thanks by Er NabumTombou Chang, Assistant Research Officer, Tuensang and benediction by Tovishe, Youth Pastor, Sumi Baptist Church, Tuensang.
In the cultural event, two students from Government Higher Secondary School, Tuensang narrated the story of Momola, a Chang Naga folklore and the significance and history of Naknyulüm festival of the Chang Nagas. Cultural troupes from GHSS Thangjam and GHSS Tuensang, Chang Cultural Troupe, Khiamniungan Cultural Troupe and Yimkhiung Cultural Troupe performed folk dances.
