Phek, August 30 (MExN): An awareness programme cum mass plantation drive from Khomi to Pfutsero (NEC Road) was organised by Centre Chakhesang Vehicle Union (CCVU) on August 27 with the cooperation of local functionaries of all 7 Central Chakhesang Villages and in collaboration with Phek Forest Division.
According to a press release, local species particularly fruiting and flowering varieties were planted above and below the road along a stretch of around 44 kms from Khomi to Pfutsero.
CCVU organised the plantation drive with an aim to raise awareness amongst the community on forest protection as well as for soil and moisture conservation in order to prevent landslide and also for road safety, the release informed. Speaking at the formal programme held at Sakraba village, DFO Phek Rongsenlemla Imchen IFS appreciated the efforts of the CCVU, local communities and public leaders of Central Chakhesang Area and said that Phek Forest Division will continue to support any local organisation or NGOs who share the same vision and the objectives with the department for the sole purpose of public welfare.
