Central Jail authority responds to news item

DIMAPUR, JUNE 8 (MExN): The Central Jail authority has termed the jail kidnapping incident of June 6, which appeared in The Morung Express on June 8 as unfounded allegation. Senior Superintendent of Jail, Central Jail, Dimapur, Kedi Angami, responding to the contents of the news item, said that the report which mentioned that the Assistant Jailor prevented the release of the accused prisoner and, forced the advocate to sign, was untrue and the accusation baseless.

The rejoinder from the Superintendent received here stated, “... it is to be mentioned that the Jail has no authority to detain a person in the Jail once release order of an accused is issued by the Court unless he/she has a pending case in other related crimes. Moreover the procedures involved in releasing a prisoner require proper check and verification and signing formalities which is mandatory.”

The statement further stated that the alleged ‘unidentified person’ who came inside the jail was “Medokholie Zashumo, the main complainant who came inside the Jail to meet the Assistant Jailor and who is well known to the Advocates of the released prisoner Deepak Borah.” Furthermore, “After executing the released order issued by the Court, the Assistant Jailor concerned left for home since all the office transaction of the day was completed. Therefore the said Assistant Jailor has no knowledge of what events happened outside the Jail after his departure from the office,” the statement read.
