Centre approves border trade centers for Nagaland

Kohima, March 30 (MExN): The proposal for development of Border Trade Centres (BTC) at Pangsha, Lungwa and Avakhung has been approved by Government of India and trade related infrastructures shall be provided under ASIDE during 2007-08.

This was stated in the Annual Administrative Report of Industries and Commerce department tabled in the just concluded state assembly session at Kohima.

To promote international trade and commercial activities in the state, five border points have been identified along the International Border of Indo-Myanmar. They are Lungwa in Mon district, Pangsha in Tuensang district, Mimi in Kiphire district, Molhe and Avangkhu (Avakhung) in Phek district, the report said.

In the first phase, trade related infrastructure facilities on the anvil are at Lungwa (Mon), Pangsha (Tuensang) and Avangkhu (Phek), the report said. 

Under NEC programme, the state PWD (Roads & Bridges) is constructing road to Pongkhungri EAC HQ to the border point via Avangkhu village.

It is also reported that road to border point inside Myanmar is under construction from Layshi, which is about 25 km the satellite town of Tamanthi port on river Chindwin where Tizu joins in Myanmar, the report said adding that this route be the most convenient and easiest to start trade with Myanmar.
