
DIMAPUR, JULY 25 (MExN): Contentious issues concerning the proposed Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) were resolved during the third Tripartite High Level Committee meeting held on July 23, with only a few matters pending resolution from the side of the Nagaland government, the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO) stated on Friday.
The meeting, held at the new Ministry of Home Affairs office complex at Janpath, New Delhi, was attended by representatives of the Government of India, the Government of Nagaland, and the ENPO.
The Government of India delegation was led by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and included Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, Additional Secretary (Home – North East) Piyush Goyal, Advisor (NE) AK Mishra, Joint Secretary (NE) Niraj Kumar Bansod, and Joint Director (IB) Rakesh Kamble.
From the Nagaland government, Home Commissioner Anoop Khinchi, IAS, and Sharon Longchari, Joint Resident Commissioner at Nagaland House, Delhi, represented the state.
The ENPO delegation was headed by its president, Chingmak Chang.
In a press statement issued on July 25, the ENPO noted that “the Union Home Secretary and all the Officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs GoI, were very serious and practical on ENPO issues.” It further stated that the tripartite discussions had “narrowed down the differences, except for some points to be settled from the side of the State government of Nagaland.”
Accordingly, the Union Home Secretary directed the Nagaland government representatives to resolve their pending stands within a fortnight.
The next Tripartite High Level Committee meeting is expected to be convened in August.
“The ENPO is very positive that all the parties involved, will work towards resolving the remaining issues at the earliest and speed up the process for the establishment of FNT without delay,” the statement read.
The organisation also expressed gratitude “to all the Churches and individuals for their prayer and logistic support.”
