Centre releases Rs27.45 Cr to Nagaland for PMAY-G; NPRAAF cautions against misuse

Dimapur, April 16 (MExN): The Ministry of Rural Development (Rural Housing), Government of India, has released the 2nd tranche of the 1st instalment of Central Assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G) to the State of Nagaland for the financial year 2024-25.

The sanctioned amount of Rs27,45,25,000 (Rupees twenty-seven crore forty-five lakh twenty-five thousand) was released on February 25, 2025, as part of the annual allocation for programme and administrative funds.

According to the Ministry, the total annual Central allocation for programme and admin funds for FY 2024-25 is Rs109.81 crore. Of this, Rs27.45 crore was released earlier as the 1st tranche of the 1st instalment. The latest release matches that amount, comprising Rs26.91 crore as programme funds for Scheduled Tribe (ST) beneficiaries and Rs0.5375 crore as administrative funds.

The grant, intended as revenue expenditure, is to be utilised strictly for the construction of new houses as per the implementation framework of PMAY-G. The Centre-State cost-sharing ratio stands at 90:10.

In this context, the Nagaland Public Rights Awareness and Action Forum (NPRAAF) issued a statement reminding the State Government to ensure transparency and accountability in fund utilisation.

The NPRAAF cautioned that the funds, especially earmarked for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) beneficiaries, must not be diverted or transferred to any personal deposit (PD) accounts or other state government accounts. It emphasised that the funds should remain in the single nodal account of PMAY-G and not be moved to fixed deposits, flexi accounts, multi-option accounts, or corporate liquid term deposits.

Further, the Forum reiterated that no deductions should be made by any agency, including the State Government, from the beneficiaries’ share. It urged the Department to follow the Ministry-prescribed formula when allocating targets to districts.

NPRAAF stated that it will continue to monitor the implementation of flagship programmes and take appropriate action in cases of misuse or corruption.
