Cess on fuel is ‘anti-people,’ says DCCI

Dimapur, May 1 (MExN): The Dimapur of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) today expressed resentment against the recent decision of the Nagaland Government to impose ‘abnormal’ cess on diesel and petrol and motor spirit, terming it as 'anti-people' and devoid of any logic.

At a time when the common public is hard hit on all fronts due to the lockdown in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the order to hike fuel prices is nothing more than utter disregard of the common man's plight by the government of the day, the DCCI said in a statement on Friday.

It urged the government to immediately revoke the order in the best interest of all concerned.

Further, the DCCI referred to a representation submitted by the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) and said that the government should take the same “with full seriousness as it represents the entire business community of Nagaland.” The DCCI is ready to act upon on CNCCI directives to go to any length to see that the arbitrary cess on fuel prices is revoked, it added.

The DCCI further opined that “the state government should learn from other states in India, where hundreds and thousands of crores are being pumped in as a stimulus packages to save and bring back the state economy to normalcy.”

“The DCCI also feels that the state government has become too naive on common man misery,” it added.

Meanwhile, DCCI acknowledged “the central government for providing materials and other logistic supports in the hour of need when the state was grappling to wake up to the realities.”
