CF ground rules, arms seizure dominate CFSB meeting

Dimapur | April 14 : The first meeting of the Cease-fire Supervisory Board (CFSB) between the GPRN/NSCN and the Government of India after Maj Gen (Retd) Eppen Jacob Kochekkan took over as the CSFB chairman, was held at Rhododendron Hall, NAPTC Complex Chumudekima, on Thursday. It was learnt that the issue of the seizure of huge cache or arms belonging to the GPRN/NSCN by the Assam Rifles on April 9 last from Chekiye village, dominated the meeting with exchange of heated arguments at one point of time.
Emerging from the 2-hour long meeting, the CFSB chairman however said that the meeting was held in a “most cordial and congenial manner” and all issues related to implementation of the ceasefire ground rules (CFGR) discussed in a free and forthright manner.
“We agreed on many issues while on some issues we agreed to disagree,” Jacob (also chairman of the ceasefire monitoring group with the NSCN-IM) said and added that both sides gave due respect to each other’s point of views.
On the reported demand of the GPRN/NSCN to return the arms seized by the Assam Rifles, Jacob said, “the views of the NSCN has been noted, it will be examined and appropriate response will be given after examining the case.”  Queried on his attendance of the CFSB meeting, the new CFSB chairman said that it was “extremely interesting.”
“I understand and respect the vision of those who started this mechanism,” he added.
Apart from the CFSB chairman, the government side was represented by Nagaland DGP K Kire, Brig. RPS Mana of IGAR (N), Commandant CRPF Kohima Prabhanjan Kumar, Lt. Col S Chakrabarty (AR) and CFSB members DIG (Retd) G Rengma and DSP (Retd.) Shokum Yimchunger. The GPRN/NSCN members included Wangtin Naga (CFSB convenor), Jack Jimomi, Meren Nokpu, Hokato Vushe, Bohoto Kiba and Kideon Zhimomi.
It may be mentioned that troops of the 24 Assam Rifles seized a total of nine assorted weapons and ammunition and apprehended four persons from Chekiye village, Dimapur, on April 9 last. The seized arms and ammunition include five AK-56 rifles with magazines, a Chinese rifle with magazine, one carbine and two pistols (9mm and M20), 535 rounds of AK-56, 15 rounds of 9mm, four rounds of M20 and a spare AK-56 magazine.
The four arrested include two GPRN/NSCN cadres and two civilians.
