CGST Dimapur in collaboration with Business Association of Nagas organised a GST workshop at the CGST Office in Dimapur on June 27.

Dimapur, June 28 (MExN): As a part of GST Pakhwada (Fortnight) leading up to July 1, GST Day 2025, CGST Dimapur in collaboration with the Business Association of Nagas (BAN) organised a GST workshop themed ‘Empowering Women Entrepreneurs’ at the CGST Office in Dimapur on June 27.
This interactive workshop was attended by more than 30 women entrepreneurs from Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Peren and Niuland, stated an update received here.
Zubeno Mozhui, Vice President (Women) BAN welcomed the attendees and informed that the workshop was an endeavour by CGST Department and BAN to educate and empower women in business about tax laws and bring greater financial awareness as they expand their businesses.
The workshop was conducted by Additional Commissioner CGST Sashi Wapang Lanu who touched upon the basics of GST including Registration, GST Tax Rates, Filing of Returns and payment. He also pointed out some common mistakes being made by small businesses such as taking GST registration but not filing monthly returns which result in fines and penalties for non filing. He further explained that GST is a destination based tax which means the state where goods are finally bought gets the tax revenue, not the state where they are produced.

The high consumption in Nagaland means more tax is being collected in Nagaland unlike the pre-GST era when the tax was collected at the point of manufacture. The GST system has been beneficial to the northeast states as it seems to be plugging the gap created by the limited manufacturing base in the region.
For every rupee of GST collected, 50% goes directly to Nagaland State government’s treasury and for a small state like Nagaland, where there are very few tax sources, the GST collection constitutes a high proportion (60%-70%) of Nagaland’s own tax revenue. Therefore entrepreneurs have an important role to play to take GST Registration and begin to charge and collect GST from their customers once the annual turnover of their business exceeds the threshold limit of Rs 10 lakh.
A Q&A session followed where the attendees cleared various doubts on GST and tax matters in general. The workshop was also attended by Thangi Manen (IAS Retired) who is Advisor to BAN. This collaboration between CGST and BAN will continue in the future and make efforts to organise such awareness workshops every few months.
