
DIMAPUR NOV 26 (MExN): The Chakhesang Baptist Church Council organized a CBCC church workers workshop on church economy held for two days, November 24 and the 25th, at Bade Baptist Church. The workshop was graced by Kuzholuzo Nienu, Agriculture Minister, as the Chief Guest.
At the event, attended by prominent church leaders, government officers and other personalities reaffirmed and re-endorsed the resolution of the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) prohibiting jungle-burning and cattle ‘controlling’ in Phek District. It resolved that all the churches shall be urged to create awareness and monitor implementation of the said resolution at grass-root level keeping in mind this would facilitate double-cropping and crop rotation.
It was also resolved upon that all member churches and individuals would be urged to set up projects on identified commercially viable crops such as Nadia ginger, passion fruits and large cardamoms based on agro climatic conditions.
The workshop further affirmed that in order to initiate traditional knowledge/system on biodiversity, churches and individuals would be directed to record all the names of indigenous plants in local dialects within the village jurisdiction as well as encourage members to undertake rearing of sow for breeding purposes.
Further resolutions were also made namely, in order to augment income generation of the village, member churches would be urged to preserve and propagate wild edible fruits as well as restrain from hunting animals and birds for celebration of festivities such as Easter Christmas and New Year.
Earlier Azoi inaugurated the CBCC integrated vocational training center. The workshop was addressed by resource person Nguzonyi Wetsah, District Agriculture Officer, Phek. Chotisu Sazo, District Horticulture Officer addressed on identification of suitable crops for different localities. Vengota Makro, Deputy Director, S&WC presented a discourse on building on the existing strengths for a more stable economy. Pusazo Luruo, Vice President NPF also spoke on the development of rural economy. Further, Vekrotsu Khamu Joint Director, Horticulture spoke on government policies and schemes for fruit cultivation while Dr Kevesheyi Chakhesang, Deputy Director veterinary spoke on the prospects of livestock in rural areas. Earlier Reverend K Luruo, executive secretary CBCC delivered the introductory message at the workshop. The session was moderated by Reverend Dr. Dingu Kenye and Vikuo Rhi.
