Chakhro Angami Kuda Union urges restoration of ‘Chalie Kevichusa Road’

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 21 (MExN): While appreciating the initiatives undertaken by the Government in giving due recognition to prominent figures by naming Government Institutions and Town roads after them, the President, Chakhro Angami Kuda Union (CAKU) has written to the government.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary, Home Department (General Administration), the CAKU reminded of an earlier order dated Dimapur, February 25, 1993, wherein the Government had declared the present road starting from ‘NST Bus Station to the present Dhansiri River’ as ‘Chalie Kevichusa Road’.

The CAKU mentioned that this declaration was made pursuant to the proposal and recommendation of the Chairman of then civic body Dimapur Town Committee (DTC) L. Vikato Yepthomi to name the above mentioned road as ‘Chalie Kevichusa Road’ in his memory. Late Chalie Kevichusa was described as a veteran politician, a prominent public leader and a bonifide member of the Union.

Having come across the publication of names for official roads on the November 15 edition of the Nagaland Post and Morung Express, the CAKU expressed surprise that the road starting from ‘Deluxe Point to Old Dhansiri Bridge’ has now been named as ‘Rhanlamo Lotha Road’.

The Union mentioned that this stretch of the road also covers the already declared ‘Chalie Kevichusa Road’, hence it urged the concerned authority to restore the earlier order dated February 25, 1993.

The Union further empathized that they are not against anyone but it was to secure a legitimate place of pride and to forge a strong communal bond amidst the comity of tribes inhabiting Nagaland. Therefore, the Union urged the Home Department to kindly rectify the said publication by restoring and upholding the name of the road as ‘Chalie Kevichusa Road’ in terms of the earlier Order dated February 25, 1993.
