This is with reference to the Article “Dimapur Airport facing expansion problem”, published in your esteem daily dated 14th Oct 2018. And so with the advancement in Air connectivity equally demands bigger operational capability, which all drains down to availability of space (land). If we want bigger/heavier aircraft to operate, we will need longer and wider runways. If we want round the clock operational capability, we will need better Runway lighting systems and not necessarily only at the runway but also 20 Miles radius from the aerodrome reference point so that all potential obstructions are clearly denoted. (Land and manpower).
If we want a fully ILS all weather compliant airport, apart from numerous instrumentation houses lacations/installations we may have to level off/ shave off some of the hill portions to cater for the miss approach & Go-around procedures (Land & Manpower). There are n-numbers of requirement of space/land and the responsibility of management by the Airports Authority of India so that flight operations can be conducted in safe, efficient and clean environment. But it looks like nobody is listening to nobody. Well, I can understand the helplessness of our State Govt. because land belongs to the land-owners.
It’s time that the citizens of Dimapur should empathise with M Zhimo, GM (OPS),Director ,Dimapur Airport by way of having a big heart and co-operate with all the airport operators like AAI, All airline operators and the Govt. of Nagaland as the facilitator so that a few years from now, apart from increase in passenger traffic, we will be seeing tonnes of cargo shipment being handled by Boeing-757,B-747, Blue dart, Singapore cargo!!!
Come, lets do it.
