Chandel bandh suspended

CHANDEL, DECEMBER 16 (NNN): The Chandel Naga Peoples Organization (CNPO) has suspended its indefinite total bandh along the Pallel-Chandel and Pallel-Moreh roads which began since midnight of December 15 demanding the withdrawal of police commandos from Chandel district. The “total bandh” was called in collaboration with Naga Women Union Chandel (NWUC) and Naga Students Union Union Chandel (NSUC).   Speaking to NNN, CNPO president LV Robert Lamkang said that the indefinite “total bandh” was suspended in view of the coming Christmas. Today’s bandh created inconveniences to the public, especially to those students from outside the state who are coming home for Christmas. Bandh supporters were seen burning logs and tyres along the Pallel-Chandel road this afternoon. However, there was no report of untoeard incident due to the bandh.   The Chandel civil organisations said that they will take up other democratic forms of agitation till their demands are made, Robert said.   The CNPO then expressed their heartfelt gratitude to tribe hohos, NWUC, NSUC and other bandh supporters for their “relentless support and cooperation in making the bandh successful”.   Further, CNPO apologized to the public for causing inconveniences during festive season.   On December 11, the CNPO in its "presidential meeting" with regard to the ultimatum served to the state Government for withdrawal of police commandos from Chandel district by December 14, had adopted a resolution to impose the indefinite bandh in the event of the failure from the State Government side to address the demand.
